Chi Sono — About Stefania

Twenty years of turning nervous beginners into confident travellers.

Dr Stefania Faraone has taught Italian as a second language for over two decades, and currently runs six courses — from complete beginners to advanced conversation — at Stranmillis University College in Belfast. She holds a PhD in Anglistics and a BA (Hons) in English and French from the University of Pescara, alongside a CLTA diploma in teaching Italian as a foreign language.

Beyond the classroom, Stefania organises cultural trips to Italy for her students — Rome, Naples, Bergamo — so the language has somewhere real to land.

Frasario da Viaggio — Travel Phrasebook

Three phrases worth knowing before you land.

A small taste of what lessons cover — the phrases that make you feel like a guest, not a tourist.

At the restaurant

"Cosa ci consiglia lei?"
What would you recommend?
Asking "lei" (formal you) instead of "tu" signals respect — waiters notice, and often open up.

Asking directions

"Mi sono perso/a, può aiutarmi?"
I'm lost, can you help me?
Italians tend to respond warmly to a direct, honest admission rather than a hesitant question.

At check-in

"Ho una prenotazione a nome..."
I have a reservation under the name...
Front-desk staff shift into Italian fast once they hear you start correctly — worth practising the whole sentence.
Testimonianze — Postcards from Students

What students say after a few years, not a few weeks.

"I have been doing Italian with Stefania for 3 years. Her class is entertaining, well structured and encourages student participation. Add to that, Stefania is a really lovely person."

— Brian Anderson, Student

"Stefania's Italian class has enhanced my life in many ways. I'm still learning the language 4 years on — the reason I joined in the first place — but there has also been so much more: cultural events, trips to Italy, and wonderful friends."

— Zora, Student

"I have been attending Stefania's classes for a few years now. Her enthusiasm for her country and language is passed on to every student, taught in a friendly way where no one is afraid to have a go."

— Paul Thompson, Student
